Genghis Khan`s Mausoleum , which was the highest God - the Eight White Palaces worshiped by whole Mongolians ,built for offering sacrifices to Genghis Khan forever endure through changes of history with history and changes of Erdos people who are the guard and sacrifice tribes for the Mongolian dynasty.
The White Palaces for worshipping Genghis Khan after his death in 1227,built in Ordos Keeping hidden at the biginning.
Ordos people who responsible for guarding the Mausoleum and offering sacrifices to Genghis Khan moved to Hetao area namely the area of Yellow river from north plateau since 1460, and large numbers entered there during in 1465 and 1469,meanwhile the palace they worshipped and the four Ordos(palace) from north of the desert were brought there combined with the palaces built in Ordos area became Eight White Palaces.The Hetao district is then named as “Ordos” which means the place with many palaces.
In 1649,Elinchen,decentof Gengs Khan,first leader of Yh Ju League transferred the palaces and other holy relics from Yh Ju (the area of Yellow river) to Wang ai zhao (the area of Bayin cahang grassland).Since the place was called Ejin horo banner, which means “courtyard of the holy lord” in 1649.
In June,1939 in order to avoid the the war ,the remnant of the Khan and his first wife called Burde and second wife called HuLan,and the Black Sulde (God of war) were moved to the Xinglong Mountain, Yuzhong County of Gansu Province.In 1949, the beginning of August moved to the Ta’er Temple in Qinghai Province.The 7th of April in 1954 returned to the EJin Horo banner.
The Genghis Khan’s Mausoleum was built in 1954 under the assistance of the People's Central Government and the whole construction was finished in 1956 . In the following years,the Mausoleum was continuously remended and extended, especially in 2004, with the total enlargement the Mausoleum expresses the heroic posture of the Khan of Grassland. Genghis Khan`s Mausoleum has been guarded by Darhuud people for more than eight hundred years.Not only did these people guard the worshiped the Eight White Palaces – the antitype of Genghis Khan`s Mausoleum, but they also reserved perfectly the sacrificing and worshiping ceremonial culture of the royal palace of the Mongolian Empire in the 13th century.
