Guarding Tribe of the Mausoleum

Ordos people are tightly linked with Genghis Khan's palace from the beginning. Ordos means "many palaces" and the people who guards Ordos called Ordos people.

The ancestors of Ordos people were guards and service men of Genghsi Khan's palace and his mother, WuElun`s and the queen's.They continue to guarde and worship the palace of soul when Genghis Khan and his wives died.

In 1227,when Genghis Khan died some Ordos people who responsible for guarding and worshipping stayed at Bortogai(HeTao) area .In the middle of 15th century, the Ordos people from north of the desert moved to Hetao area with Four big Ordos, combined with the Ordos people there .The Hetao district is then named as “Ordos.”

The Ordos people who in charge of guarding, transferring and worshipping the palace made great contribution to the protection of Genghis Khan`s Mausoleum..

 Darhut

Darhut,a Mongolian word, means "the one shouldering holy responsibility”, who are the part of Ordos guarding tribes, awarded special rights of "no military service, no tax" and the only task for them is to protect the Mausoleum – the highst God. The Darhut People from every tribes, who take on guarding, worshipping, maintaining and transferring the Eight White Palaces and the Khan’s holy relics.The Darhut,who descents through long historical time, perfectly reserve Genghis Khan`s Eight White Palaces, the sacred ceremonial and royal palace culture of 13th century become the direct smuriti of Mongolian traditional culture. Darhut were originated from Great Mongolian Empire, in the age of Kublie Khan ,they appointed as Grand Tutor, prime minister, hongjin ,Yamuted who take care of the sacred ceremony, and 500 Darhut families were reorganized in Kangxi's time in Qing dynesty.

The management system of Darhut is almost the same as the zhasa of a banner; they built the special district of Darhut under the direct management of the leader of Ih Ju League or Ordos(jinong). There are smaller basic organizations called Haren and Hexig and the yamutede the organization of sacred ceremony. The responsibilities of the Darhut organization are clearly divided so that they do the unusual contribution to guard, worship and manage effectively the Eight White Palaces, the holy relics such as Sulde, and solve the problem of cost for the sacrifices as well as.
